Our Chinese Culture Homeschool Enrichment Program is a highlights program. There is not expectation of previous study of Chinese culture or language. Come with an open mind and a curious heart and gather knowledge on a variety of aspects of Chinese culture to share with your family and friends!

Mandarin Language

Students have the opportunity to begin their language journey with language classes taught by Chinese-Americans whose first language is Mandarin!

Mandarin is the official standard language of The People’s Republic of China, The Republic of China (Taiwan), one of four official languages in Singapore, and one of the six official languages of the United Nations.  As China becomes a global superpower, we are eager to support students in building a familiarity with the language.

Folk Dance & Martial Arts

Our Chinese folk dance and traditional martial arts classes are taught by experienced Chinese dance teachers with a passion for sharing their craft and teaching new generations about the cultural importance of movement.

Students have the opportunity to learn the movements of a powerful Kung Fu Fan Dance (功夫扇), a cheerful YangGeHandkerchief Dance (秧歌), as well as the beautiful flow of Tai Chi (太极).  Through these movement classes, students will grow in their self-confidence and work ethic and make wonderful new friends along the way!

Traditional Arts & Crafts

Our art classes introduce students to China’s many traditional art forms through fun and engaging crafts!  Learn the history and art of traditional Chinese paper cutting (剪纸), which dates back to the second century CE and has become one of the most popular forms of Chinese Folk Art, as well as new cross-curricular arts and crafts that are connected with the celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节) and Chinese New Year (春节).

Delicious Cuisine

The crowd favorite!  Students get to learn how to make traditional Chinese dumplings (饺子) and egg rolls (春卷)!  Originating in China, jiaozi, more commonly called dumplings, are made of a wheat flour dough wrapper filled with meat and/or vegetables. Traditional egg rolls are usually eaten during the Spring Festival in mainland China as a way to welcome the arrival of spring!

Who doesn’t love a tasty educational meal?

A Rich History

Let’s take a trip through China!  Students will explore China’s 3,500 years of rich, recorded history, including the major dynasties that built the Great Wall, China’s growth in the 21st Century, and the evolution of its vast landscapes, people, and communities. With lessons that incorporate interactive crafts and activities that encourage exploration, students are able to investigate together the often-mysterious story of China.
